Here it is gang.  The final girls poll of the year as well as the latest boys poll.  District tournaments have kicked off for the girls.  READER OPINION:  Which, if any of the girls teams will advance to the State tournament?

Brown awarded scholarship

A year ago, Southeast Financial owner/operator Tami Parris contacted Blackfoot head coach Mike Kirkham and asked him about awarding a $500 scholarship to one of his graduating seniors.

Coach Kirkham quickly agreed and the first scholarship winner was awarded the monies at the senior night.  Maria Ballesteros was awarded the scholarship and the tradition was born.

This years recipiant was Baily Brown, who was presented with the award by Sheryl Dahlquist who was acting in behalf of Miss Parris due to an illness in her family.  Tami Parris did sent a written statement which was read by Blackfoots public address announcer.

In the address, Parris stated that she promised that this program would continue and as a woman business owner, she felt that it was important to aid to these young women in the Blackfoot Lady Bronco Basketball program.

It certainly is great to see a local business owner stepping up and aiding to the further education of our youth and I look forward to seeing who next years winner will be.

A little thought (thats all I have)

By now everyone has heard about the suspensions of some of the Blackfoot High School basketball team, as well as a few members of the wrestling program for a positive drug test.  Over the past week or so, I have been approached by several local readers as to my opinion on what has taken place.

The regular season is in the back stretch, here is the latest media basketball poll released earlier this afternoon.  READER OPINION: ARE THE POLLS A GOOD INDICATOR OF WHERE THE TEAMS WILL WIND UP COME MARCH?

Now that the holidays are behind us, the state media guys have put their collective thinking caps on to vote for this weeks poll.  One interesting point.  No Bingham County teams in the top five in any category.  Many had votes rendered their way however. With the holiday break upon us many area athletes have returned home from their respective colleges and universities.
Here is a list of the fall participants, their sport, school and any statistical information available.  This certainly not every athlete, but as many as could be recollected.

Rivarly Week! The B-Town Brawl!

All is right with the world, well almost.  On Tuesday night the Blackfoot Broncos and Snake River Panthers renewed their timeless rivalry.  For those of you that were in attendance, you will understand the sheer magnitude of the game.
To say that it was standing room only could be a gross understatement as Blackfoot’s gym was literally overflowing.
This is not an oddity, however, as most graduates from Blackfoot and Snake River remember the overflowing gyms, thrilling finishes and emotional celebrations of years past.  READER OPINION:  WHAT ARE YOUR MEMORIES OF BHS VS SRHS?  IS IT TIME FOR THE TWO SCHOOLS TO RENEW THEIR RIVALRY ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD?
