Had a request from Japan for some Blackfoot Bronco tennis action. . . . How could I deny that?
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot tennis team avenged and earlier season loss to Highland on Friday afternoon by knocking off the 5A powerhouse from the South 7-5.
“This was a great job for the team.” Blackfoot head coach Brint Jefferis said. “We came back from a 2-10 loss last week to win today. It came down to the very end with Kendall Armstrong winning the final match.”
Key to the Bronco victory was a sweep of both the boys singles matches and the girls doubles matches.
Justin Cannon won his first singles 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Tyler Cannon followed suit in second singles 6-3, 6-2 and Marc Matsuura rounded out the singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
In the girls doubles the Meg & Meg show continued as Matsuura and Dalley won 6-3, 6-1 and Lindsey Loveland and Brandi Bird cruised home for a 6-0, 6-4 win.
In mixed doubles, Ryan Mattson and Lindsey Bird teamed up for their second win of the week together, battling for a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win.
Armstrong sealed the team win with a 6-3, 7-6 victory in third singles.
“This was very satisfying to come back and beat a school that beat us previously.” Jefferis concluded.
Blackfoot (2-2) will host Madison next Tuesday at 3:30 P.M.
