Van Orden signs with Southern Utah
THOMAS — After leading her team to the 3A state volleyball championship Eden Van Orden signed a letter of intent on Tuesday, committing to play for the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah University in Cedar City Utah.
“I chose to go to Souther Utah because I like the coaches there,” Van Orden said. “They really push you to be your best both on and off the court.”
“They have been on my list since my sophomore year but Idaho State offered me a scholarship and I really wanted to go to ISU because it was close to home,” Van Orden continued. “When I went on my recruiting trip to ISU the feeling just wasn’t right though and when I went to Southern Utah it just felt right to me, even though it’s 6 hours away from home I really felt that it was were I was supposed to be.”
Fans who have enjoyed watching Van Orden over the past four years of her stellar prep career will get plenty of opportunities to see her, despite the 6 hour drive to Cedar City as Southern Utah will join the Big Sky Conference.
Thunderbird head coach Debby Baker is thrilled to steal a recruit with the talents of Van Orden out of the soon to be conference rival Idaho State Bengals back yard.
“Eden is a great athlete and I love how hard she works and the passion that she plays with,” coach Baker said. “Her personality and work ehtic are going to have a huge impact in our gym. Eden is raw in terms of experience but I think after a season she is going to be a big contributor to the team. I see her competing for a starting spot her freshman year.”
Van Orden will be joining a team that is 15-14 on the current season and will be graduating 4 seniors from this seasons roster.
“I’m glad that I chose Southern Utah and I am excited about being a part of that program.” Van Orden concluded.
