The only reason the game isn't played is Buck and Marshall don't want it. If you read all the articles in both the morning news and post register about why the game died, you'll see the only people who don't want to play the game are those two.

Frankly I was surprised to hear that most of the Blackfoot-Snake River rivalry had died. Having graduated from BHS and having covered the rivalry for almost 10 years at The News - I was saddened to hear that one of the best rivalries in Idaho High School sports was all but dead. As you said Mark - the gate alone should make having those games worth holding. Also the fact that travel costs are almost nil should also be a consideration.

Over the course of about 20 years I remember those games - in every sport - as being the one or two games that the kids really wanted to win every year. In fact there were some years (when both S.R. and Blackfoot were down) that the winner of the annual football game considered their season a success - if they won. During Snake River's heyday under Coach Harrison I remember Blackfoot getting beat most every year - but those games made them a better team because it gave the players and coaches something to shoot for. I truly believe that at least one of the Snake River teams could have beaten Highland the year they both won state titles. As a result Blackfoot got much better and they have been in the playoffs regularly largely as a result of having to lift their game to a level where they could compete year in and year out with the Panthers (in the 90s)...that laid the foundation for their success in the early 21st Century - in my humble opinion.

Your idea makes so much sense-probably why it will never happen. I think most of the blame has to go to Blackfoot. Their mindset probably is "it's a no win situation" It would be huge for the community. I would love to see a Blackfoot-SR football game. I have heard some great stories. Blackfoot-SR is nothing like Shelley-Firth. Ending that rivalry is sad, but it makes sense as Firth is a small 2A school and Shelley is jumping to 4A (Finally)

It is wonderful that not only did Blackfoot come through with shining colors and big moments, but also that Shelley did the same thing.
What a great testament to the outstanding coaches and athletes that Bingham county and southeastern Idaho has been able to display over the past several years.
It is also memory making games like these two, with coaches coaching sons and winning championships that should be highlighted and remembered for a long time.
Hail to the champions, may there be more in the future as these two programs will now be able to face each other annually as Shelley moves up to 4A to tackle Blackfoot, Hillcrest and the rest.
Great going Shelley, four championships in this decade and way to go Broncos, two in three years. Not bad at all!!!!!!!

i predict that sandpoint wins 41to 12 simple reason we crushed hillcrest they were not ready for our defense blackfoot suffered a loss from hillcrest so blackfoot be ready for max coverage on youre prime receiver

So you'll be in my neck of the woods? Be sure to pick up an issue of the Tribune when you're up...and give your ol' editor a call!
